CHS — reported cannabinoid relationships

not a generic "most helpful" card

Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome (CHS) is caused by cannabis use itself — it is not a condition people treat WITH cannabis. According to current clinical literature, the only well-established effective treatment is total cessation of ALL cannabis use (alongside symptomatic care like capsaicin cream, antiemetics, or benzodiazepines for acute episodes) — switching to a different cannabinoid is not an established treatment. THC/cannabis use itself is the substance actually implicated as the cause; whether OTHER specific cannabinoids (CBD, CBG, etc.) play any role is a genuinely open, understudied research question, not something this dataset can answer. Every line below is a plainly-stated count extracted from an individual SENTENCE (not the whole post), so a claim about one substance cannot get contaminated by a different claim about a different substance elsewhere in the same post. Sample sizes are always stated explicitly, including when it is just one person — a single report is not a pattern.

Reported relationship by substance

This is still rule-based pattern matching, not a clinical classifier — treat it as directional and auditable, not definitive. Complex phrasing like "I thought THC caused my CHS, but my doctor said it wasn't THC" is harder than this can reliably parse.

Cannabis (general/unspecified)
18 people (firsthand) said it caused, triggered, or worsened their chs (including needing to quit/reduce it to recover).
1 person described years of regular use followed by new CHS-type symptoms starting (implied pattern, not stated outright as "caused by" -- but this progression matches what clinical literature describes as the typical course of CHS).
According to 1 person (firsthand), it did not trigger or worsen their chs.
5 people (firsthand) said it helped relieve chs-related symptoms (nausea/vomiting). This does not match established medical guidance -- clinical literature identifies cessation of ALL cannabis use as the only well-documented effective treatment for CHS. A report of cannabis/THC relieving symptoms most likely reflects the well-documented paradoxical pattern (brief relief, then rebound symptoms), not a genuine treatment effect.

CBD
5 people (firsthand) said it caused, triggered, or worsened their chs (including needing to quit/reduce it to recover).
According to 1 secondhand report, it helped relieve chs-related symptoms (nausea/vomiting). Unverified anecdote, not a treatment claim -- there is no established clinical evidence that CBD treats CHS specifically; this needs real research, not Reddit reports, before it means anything.
CBDA
4 people (firsthand) said it helped relieve chs-related symptoms (nausea/vomiting). Unverified anecdote, not a treatment claim -- there is no established clinical evidence that CBDA treats CHS specifically; this needs real research, not Reddit reports, before it means anything.

"started smoking CBD, it's amazing and there's no going back to THC for me ever again! I smoked high THC strains with barely any CBD in it for almost 20 years. Back when I was younger it would reduce my anxiety and uplift my mood, but the last couple of years it only increased my anxiety to a really bad stage and made me even paranoid at some point. It was so bad that after smoking a THC spliff I wouldn't even leave my house"

After a long week of orientation and realizing I have to manage and adapt to the stress of school, I smoked two year old cbd flower for the first time in years. I forgot how good it felt to actually be able to relax and enjoy the little free time I have. I dont have the explain it in depth, I know ya'll know. "id any accidental taking too much at once issues. THC dosage is exponential, and the threshold for a sensitive person is just 1mg to start feeling any effects. CBD doesn't stop the effects of THC, it just reduces the negative side effects like anxiety and mental fog. But you'll still feel all the other effects of THC in full. For me this is the benefit of T3, I want the good THC effects but in an easier to control dosage, without the negative effects."

"mes that work for me, but they may not work for toh. Everybody is different, a strain that's popular recommended for anxiety could make your anxiety 10x worse. I can tell you to avoid sativa's if you're prone to anxiety, some people also had luck in implementing CBD into their THC routine. I hope this helps"

"5mg of THC, those risks stay pretty low. The research we do have on daily CBD (even at much higher doses) hasn’t shown major long-term harm for healthy adults. if it’s helping your anxiety and you’re not getting side effects, most folks stick with it, check in with their doctor once in a while, and adjust the dose if anything changes"

"Eddies with a little CBN along with the CBD CBN may ease that anxiety or panic up a bit. Eddies hit pretty strong as it is. Also If you can find a terp profile on gummies try to find some that contain limonene and myrcene those may also help with the panic. and relax you more."

"Last piece of advice would be that the next time you have a THC induced panic attack, try smelling or chewing on some black peppercorns. I know it sounds crazy but black pepper contains beta-caryophyllene, a compound that affects the endocannabinoid system and has shown anti-anxiety effects in animal studies, not to mention it's definitely helped me and friends I've recommended it to. Since it’s just black pepper, smelling cracked pepper or chewing one or two peppercorns is reasonable to try."

"ood for appetite, pain, inflammation, and energy levels. Some small studies show CBG also potential anti-cancer properties, but it needs to be studied further. Some people find CBD causes stomach upset, so I’d start with a low dose of THC only or THC and CBG. Even an oil-based tincture should work in high-calorie protein shakes because they’re usually higher in fat. Avoid CBG before bed, as it’s energizing."

This question stems from both personal revelations and experiences (I am ADHD with some history of anxiety and have an active inner monologue) as well as from a few articles that suggest that those with neurodivergent brain profiles and active inner monologues often have a greater propensity to negative side effects from high THC…thus benefiting from T2 or T3. Some quotes I found interesting: “Neurodivergent brains—particularly autistic and ADHD brains—already operate with differences"

No terpene data for this symptom.

How this was built

Posts were collected from public subreddits using the Arctic Shift archive API, then scanned with keyword matching to detect mentions of cannabinoids, terpenes, symptoms, consumption methods, and outcome language (e.g. "helped", "didn't work", "side effects"). This is automated keyword detection, not clinical review — it reflects what people wrote, not verified medical outcomes, and keyword matching can misfire (sarcasm, negation, or context aren't fully understood).

This dashboard is a summary of public opinion and self-reported experience, not medical advice or a clinical study. Nothing here should be used to make treatment decisions — talk to a doctor about that.

CHS (Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome) is handled differently from every other symptom above: since CHS is caused by cannabis use rather than treated with it, it's excluded from the generic "most mentioned / most reported as helpful" cards and patient-voice quotes, and instead gets its own relationship/direction table (trigger, worsening, explicitly-not-a-trigger, substitution, etc.), extracted per cannabinoid from the text immediately around each mention.
